Let’s face it, squeaks suck.

Luckily, Q20, the multi-purpose lubricant, takes care of the

irritating noise with just one spray on the squeaky spot.

 

We created a digital banner that made it possible for us to mimic a squeaky sound effect every time users scrolled up or down a specifically selected website. This gave the impression that the scroll bar was rusty and problematic. The solution was simple. To get rid of the irritating noise, users could click on the Q20 can and spray away the squeak and continue browsing in peace and quiet.

 

 

Step 1

When the user visited the specifically selected web page, they noticed the Q20 banner placed on the site.

Step 2

As they scrolled up or down, a squeaky noise synched to the scroll of the mouse created the sound effect of a rusty scroll bar.

Step 3

To get rid of the irritating noise users had to click on the banner to animate the Q20 can, and spray the lubricant on the rusty scroll bar.

Step 4

The resolving message appeared and when clicked again, the banner took the user to the Q20 Facebook page.

Technology

We used HTML 5 and custom Javascript / Canvas animation to allow a simple banner to interact with the users’ web browser. To do this, we created a rich media experience and the impact was substantial.

 

Our code integrated with the publisher’s site, which caused the user’s scroll bar to squeak. This technical innovation in display advertising allowed us to literally, and digitally, spray the squeak away.

We specifically selected a website that would serve as the perfect environment for the Q20 product message.

This is where we knew we would find an audience with a passion for cars and DIY.

 

But more important than merely serving our Q20 advert to the right audience, we set out to measure

our Q20 campaign based on 2 criteria:

 

- Number of click-throughs on the banner

- Interaction with the banner

 

The following data is based on the banner being live for 72 hours ONLY:

 

Number of click-throughs

Our benchmark for click-throughs on a rich media banner for the relevant website is 0.16%.

Q20 by far exceeded this benchmark with a 5.80% click-through rate.

 

Interaction rate

The average for the selected website is 0.7%; Q20 achieved an incredible rate of 88.87%.
